What makes Yzerfontein feel so distinctive is the way the land meets the sea. The houses sit high above the ocean, tucked behind raised dunes that suddenly drop down onto long, open beaches. There’s a quiet drama to it - soft sand giving way to rugged rock formations, the coastline constantly changing as you move along it.

Some stretches feel expansive and walkable, others raw and untamed. You could move from wide beaches to rocky outcrops in minutes, and no two sections feel the same. It’s wild, but in a very understated way.

The Beach House Collection & Pearl Bay Beach House magic

We stayed — and shot — at one of three Beach House Collection properties, the Pearl Bay Beach House, and it was every bit the West Coast beach house dream.

Pearl Bay isn’t about glass walls or ultra-modern lines. It’s classic white clapboard - the kind of beach house that feels instantly familiar and grounding. Cozy and homely, yet fresh, bright, and spacious. The sort of place that makes you relax the moment you arrive.

But the real magic is outside.

The raised pool overlooking the ocean is the heart of the house, with an expansive wooden deck that stretches toward the sea and leads straight onto the beach. From there, the view unfolds in the most striking way - dramatic rock formations meeting soft green dunes, where rugged coastline softens into something almost gentle.

It feels wild and serene all at once.
Unpretentious, but deeply considered.
The kind of place that makes you want to stay barefoot all day and let time slip quietly by.

What we loved doing (and not doing)

One of the things that stands out most about Yzerfontein is how effortless everything feels.

Long walks along the beach with no destination.
Coffee in hand, watching the ocean shift and change.
Letting the day unfold instead of filling it.

There are moments of exploration, but also long stretches of simply being - sitting on the deck, listening to the wind and the water, and allowing the pace of the place to lead.

A non-negotiable stop: The Beach House

One place I always gravitate toward in Yzerfontein is The Beach House restaurant.

Right on the beachfront, relaxed and unfussy, it’s the perfect spot for a long lunch or sunset drink. Good food, an easy atmosphere, and views that encourage you to linger far longer than planned.

It captures everything I love about Yzerfontein - simple, beautiful, and completely unpretentious.
